Did you vote in the July 1990 referendum that defeated the 3.2 million sq. ft. development – including a 33-story office tower – proposed by the Port Authority of NY/NJ and the City of Hoboken for what is today Pier A Park?

We want you!

As part of our annual fundraising party on November 14, the Fund for a Better Waterfront (FBW) is organizing a group photo of as many 1990 referendum “NO” voters as possible. We want to show that community involvement works, permanently transforming Hoboken’s waterfront into a community asset!

The 1990 referendum victory was a stunning achievement, defeating a massive development that would have forever privatized much of Hoboken’s riverfront. Leaders of this successful campaign subsequently formed FBW and that year, hired a planner to develop A Plan for the Hoboken Waterfront that featured a fully public park along the full length of Hoboken’s Hudson River shoreline. That plan still guides our work today.

We hope you’ll join us for the group photo, which is planned for October. Email us at fbw@betterwaterfront.org for details!
