Noelle Thurlow and Jeffrey Train tell the remarkable comeback story of the Common Tern and efforts underway to secure its home on Hoboken’s waterfront

Thursday, April 17 from 5 to 7 pm – A free slide show and discussion
Hoboken Public Library 500 Park Avenue, Hoboken
Celebrate Earth Day with an engaging presentation and discussion about the efforts to save a colony of Common Terns who arrive each May to nest and raise hatchlings before returning in the fall to South America. Hoboken residents Noelle Thurlow and Jeffrey Train started Our Tern in 2024 after the owners of Pier 11, where the colony has returned each year for nearly a decade, attempted to dislodge the birds with netting and other devices. Noelle and Jeff will speak about their innovative plan to ensure Hoboken’s official bird – the Common Tern – has a future on Hoboken’s waterfront. The event is free to the public and will include light refreshments.
